Getting Joy From Seeing Happiness In Those Around Us

I hope that everyone had a happy and safe Thanksgiving; it is one of my favorite holidays and I cannot believe it has come and gone so fast. This year in general has really gone by fast. Tree-lighting ceremonies are being held throughout the county these last few weeks, many people were out getting those great deals the day after Thanksgiving and everyone’s favorite Christmas movies are on repeat. Christmastime is officially here, and with all that is going on in the country and throughout the world, there is no better time than the Christmas season to be with one’s family, enjoy one another and give back what we can to those in need. We know that it is not the hustle and bustle of the mall or the traffic to get there that brings us joy during the Christmas season. I believe the joy we get from the holiday season comes from seeing happiness in those around us.

I look forward to seeing my sons enjoy everything about the Christmas season. At my older son’s age, he will enjoy every minute of opening up and playing with his presents, and I once again will love watching him do so, but I hope to instill in him the true meaning of Christmas as my parents did for me. The true happiness that I receive during Christmastime comes from giving, not receiving.

Unfortunately, many people are less fortunate than we are and do not have the many things that we take for granted in our daily lives, such as food and warm clothing. Our community has many ways of giving back during the Christmas season, and I encourage all of you to give back with time or money to the community that has given so much to all of us. Whether you give by helping out a neighbor in need, donating to a local food pantry or buying toys for the children of a family less fortunate then you, it will truly enhance your ability to enjoy the holidays.

For several years, the Pasadena Business Association has put together the A Child’s Christmas gift drive. This is a great way to give back to the people of Pasadena who do not have enough to give to their families this Christmas. This fundraiser helps so many children receive things, from toys to warm clothing to everyday items that you or I might take for granted. It is wonderful to see families, children, churches and the business community join together to donate so generously at this time of year. If you have a little extra to give this Christmas season, please think about donating to this fundraiser or a local fundraiser that you believe in.

For more information on how to donate to A Child’s Christmas, email pasadenabusinessassociation1@verizon.net or visit www.pasadenabusinessassociation.com.

I wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
