AACPS Implements New Start And Dismissal Times

The extended summer break isn’t the only big change coming this school year. School start and dismissal times have shifted. High schools will start at 7:30am instead of 7:17am and all other public schools will start and dismiss 15 minutes later than their previous times.

The change came after a Board of Education vote in September 2016. The shift will require the purchase of 10 additional buses, and will cost approximately $618,000, which was included within the Fiscal Year 2016 approved operating budget. The changes do not necessary alter start and dismissal times at Chesapeake Science Point Public Charter School, Monarch Academy Public Charter School and Monarch Global Contract School. Those schools are responsible for their own transportation arrangements and therefore can establish their own start and dismissal times.
