Bodkin Students Undertake Efforts For Sarah’s House

As part of their participation in the Global Studies Changemaker program, students from Bodkin Elementary School recently made donations to Sarah’s House. On their own time, fifth-graders undertook an initiative to fill toiletry bags for the shelter’s residents. “When you help people, you have a warm feeling in your heart, and you want to do more,” said fifth-grader Maria Nieves. As her classmate Michelle Fadele explained, changemaking means “showing empathy, leadership, teamwork and problem solving each day and every day.”

Other grades also took on projects. Third-graders organized what they dubbed the Sweet Spot Bake Sale to raise money for people in need. Similarly, second-graders undertook a lemonade stand to fundraise.

On May 30, students received a visit from Bruce Clopein, volunteer resource manager for Sarah’s House, who accepted their donations, answered some of their questions about the shelter, and thanked them for their generosity.
