Editor’s Voice

What is it that makes you feel as if it’s officially the holiday season?

Is it going to the community tree lighting?

Or maybe taking the kids to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus at one of the many events around town?

Or maybe it’s participating in some sort of charitable effort through your church or a nonprofit organization?

Stop and think about it right now. My guess is that it has something to do with being around the people you care about – your family, your friends, your neighbors, the people with whom you work or worship, or maybe a stranger you’ve never met but are suddenly and inexplicably linked by the mission of spreading peace and good will.

Every year, as the months of November and December approach, our team here at the Voice scrambles to collect information on as many of these events as we can to let our readers know about them, primarily through the Holiday Gifts & Events Guide, which you read last month, or else through our website, Facebook and Twitter. I will admit – it sometimes feels a little strange to be trying to research all of this so far in advance.

But then December arrives, and we get to experience all the activities that we’ve been promoting. Every year, it surprises me just how close the holiday season brings us together as a community. It’s a great reminder to me of why we do what we do here at the Voice.

As hard as it is to believe, this year is drawing to a close. The next time I sit down to write this column, it will be 2019. We decided this year to do one better for our annual year-in-review article, and expanded our look back at 2018 to a four-page section so that we could share more details, more photos, and even some social media posts that excited our readers throughout 2018.

Now that our December editions are in your hands, our team will be taking a quasi-hiatus for the next few weeks to enjoy the holiday season and ring in the new year. Our next edition comes out January 24. Even though it will be a few weeks until you see us in print, we’ll still be around – follow us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, and if you have news, don’t hesitate to shoot an email to me at dylan@pasadenavoice.com.

From our entire team here, we hope you have a happy, healthy holiday season and a great start to your new year. See you in 2019!
