Anne Arundel Community Concert Association Plans For Exciting Season

This year, the Anne Arundel Community Concert Association has planned five performances by a range of musical groups: Burlap to Cashmere, Loren and Mark, The Maxwell Quartet, Alina Kiryayeva, and the Peabody Ragtime Ensemble. All performances are at 7:30pm at Severna Park High School, unless noted otherwise.

Burlap to Cashmere kicked off the season on September 16. The band is a folk music revival drawing upon the influence of Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, and James Taylor.

On October 14, Alina Kiryayeva, who is a chamber musician and classically trained concert pianist, will deliver her light classical music program entitled “Modern Piano,” featuring takes on works by Chopin, Beethoven and Liszt.

Loren and Mark is an international guitar duo whose repertoire draws on many influences including gypsy jazz, Americana, classical and bluegrass. The dynamic duo is best known for their rhythmic finger-style technique, beautiful renditions of classic melodies, improvisation and stunning vocal duets. They will perform on November 24 at 3:00pm. On January 4, Peabody Ragtime Ensemble will entertain the audience with a unique jazz repertoire of swing and big-band tunes, a mix of Dixieland and ragtime. It’s the authentic New Orleans sound at its best. According to AACCA President Gale Gillespie, “the ensemble will offer a quirky, joyous potpourri of music ranging from 1890 to 1960.”

The Maxwell Quartet is a string group based in Glasgow with regular broadcasts on BBC Scotland. The musicians are comfortable touring across Europe, playing at celebrated venues such as London’s Wigmore Hall as well as music festivals. Their program will include original arrangements of Scottish folk music, as well as pieces from Hayden and Beethoven on April 3.

Anne Arundel Community Concert Association is a volunteer-run organization bringing the arts to the county at a low cost to members and subscribers. Now in its 68th year, the group is always on the lookout for volunteers and new members. Subscriptions are $60 and are still available for the upcoming season. Subscribers may attend all of the concerts, as well as those concerts of the South County Concert Association, which meets at Southern High School. Subscribers with children in first through 12th grades may bring their children at no additional cost.

“We encourage subscribing,” Gillespie said, “but we do offer tickets at the door for single concerts at $25. We have a wonderful website at www.aacconcerts.weebly.com where information about our concerts is available, and one may download an application there or pay via Pay Pal for subscriptions.”
