Author Pens Sixth Book, A Thriller About A Serial Killer

Harry Carpenter’s books have covered the gamut of genres, from memoir (“Tales From an Ex-Husband”) to horror (“Spooky Tales and Scary Things”) to sci-fi (“Fubar: Blackout”). For his sixth book, the 141-page “Memoirs of a Crazed Mind,” self-published July 31, the Glen Burnie author explored another genre by delving into the mind of a serial killer.

“I've always been interested in biopics about serial killers,” Carpenter said. “I wanted to write a wild story. There it is. I've managed to get looks from my wife after she read the book. I guess that's a good thing?”

The story is a step-by-step life account of a serial killer, as heard through recordings with a doctor who has the chance to meet him. The journey spans decades, as the killer details every encounter, thought and crime.

While writing the book, Carpenter was aware of the ways it differed from his other works.

“For one, as opposed to my military science fiction, ‘Fubar: Blackout,’ where you enjoy the protagonist and his adventures, the main character of ‘Memoirs of a Crazed Mind’ is likable enough to want to read more, but equally despicable,” Carpenter said. “This is also the only story not remotely in the slightest inspired by any life events. Everything is purely fictional, pulled from the air, unlike ‘Fubar’ or the ‘Spooky Tales’ series, which are rooted in real-life experiences of sorts.”
