Chesapeake Tennis Finishes Regular Season Undefeated

Chesapeake (7-0) wrapped up the regular season with a win over visiting North County (2-5) on June 4 and finished undefeated for the first time in the 20-year tenure of coach Grant Yinger.

“This was a special team with a core group of returning varsity players, senior leadership and quality newcomers who fit right in,” Yinger said. “Not only did we run the table; we didn’t drop more than two matches in any of our competitions. It was a fitting end in several ways, and this was such a fantastic group to work with.”

Here are the results from the win over North County:

No. 1 boys singles, Chesapeake’s Riley Fitzpatrick defeated Manmoud Sary 6-0, 6-0.

No. 2 boys singles, Chesapeake’s Josh Colangelo defeated Hassan Khan 6-0, 6-0.

North County’s Elaina Budd capped off a fine season in girls No. 1 singles beating Anna Harmon 6-2, 6-1.

No. 2 girls singles, Chesapeake’s Jena Kopp won over Maia Kiecan-Towle Elizabeth Voronin 6-0,6-0.

At No. 1 boys doubles, Chesapeake’s Turek brothers team, Frank and Brooks defeated Owen Montgomery and Jimmy Deal 6-2, 6-2.

No. 2 boys doubles, North County’s Matt Dessanna and Mo Sary showed hustle and beat Ben Hilpert and Jack Brennan 6-2, 6-3.

No. 1 girls doubles, Chesapeake’s Maddie Hoyer and Reina Patolia beat Jaylin Sheffield and Ella Morgan 6-2, 6-2.

No. 2 girls doubles, Chesapeake’s Sammi Leo and Darby Trout defeated Wendy Holguin and Ema Rajala 6-1, 6-1.

And in the match of the day, Chesapeake’s mixed doubles of Jamie Gant and Parks Braun went the distance and prevailed over Alyson Geckle and Xander Doersam 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (9).
