Children’s Theatre of Annapolis (CTA) will bring the magic of Arendelle to the stage this fall with Disney’s “Frozen: The Broadway Musical,” featuring a cast of 28 local performers ages 12 to 18.
Running October 30 through November 15, the production brings the Academy Award-winning animated story to life with expanded musical numbers, elaborate costuming and theatrical effects. Based on Disney’s 2013 film, “Frozen” follows sisters Anna and Elsa and the powerful bond that connects them.
After Elsa accidentally unleashes her hidden icy powers on the kingdom of Arendelle, she retreats into isolation. Anna sets out to find her sister and bring her home, embarking on a journey through a frozen landscape with ice harvester Kristoff, his reindeer Sven and the warmhearted snowman Olaf.
The stage production features the film’s familiar songs by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, including “Let It Go,” along with more than a dozen additional songs created for the two-act Broadway adaptation.
Michelle Bruno directs the CTA production, with Jamie Levine serving as music director and Anya Lengbeyer as choreographer. Caylee Rogers stars as Anna alongside Khloe Hill as Elsa. The principal cast also includes Elliot Scar as Hans, Israel Gilbert as Kristoff, Madi Ward as Olaf, Colin Carr as Sven, Liam Cool as Oaken and Harrison Randall as Weselton. Sarabelle Stephens and JoJo Lengbeyer portray Young Anna and Young Elsa, respectively.
As part of the production, CTA is expanding the show beyond its traditional audiences through a special partnership designed to make live theater more accessible to area students.
CTA is partnering with Anne Arundel County Public Schools, local private schools and regional homeschool networks for a dedicated school-day performance on November 12 at 9:30 a.m. The field trip performance will give students an opportunity to experience professional-grade theater in their own community, with an emphasis on providing free access for local Title I schools.
Educators and homeschooling parents will also receive an educational enrichment guide connecting themes from “Frozen,” including sisterhood, emotional expression, resilience and acceptance, with learning objectives.
Select performances throughout the run will further CTA’s focus on accessibility and inclusion with post-show cast question-and-answer sessions, a relaxed/sensory-friendly performance, and an ASL-interpreted performance.
Children’s Theatre of Annapolis is located at 1661 Bay Head Road in Annapolis. Performances are scheduled for Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m., with a special Halloween matinee on October 31 at 1 p.m. Tickets are $16-$20.
