Cougars, Eagles Track And Field Athletes Represent At States

A handful of Northeast and Chesapeake track and field athletes competed on the state’s biggest stage at the MPSSAA Track and Field State Championship meet at Morgan State from May 23-25.

Qualifying for the state meet is in itself a tremendous accomplishment, and the Eagles and Cougars who represented Pasadena did their school communities doubly proud by turning in strong performances at Morgan State.

Northeast’s Christal Pommells placed seventh in the 3A girls 100-meter dash in 12.64 seconds and sixth in the 200 in 25.84 seconds. Josh Krcik placed seventh in the 3A boys 110-meter hurdles, sixth in the 300-meter hurdles and fourth in the long jump with a jump of 21 feet, 6 inches.

The girls 4x100 relay team of Kamryn Johnson, Dae’Jour Long, Somorha Smith and Pommells placed fifth.

Shawn Tyler finished 15th in the boys 300 hurdles for Northeast.

The girls 4x200 team of Johnson, Yasmeena Jones, Long and Smith also qualified for the state meet but suffered a disqualification in the finals.

Chesapeake’s Jonathan Vasquez placed fifth in boys 3A pole vault by clearing 11 feet, 6 inches. Samantha Leo placed seventh in girls 3A high jump and finished 10th in triple jump. Cougar freshman Bailey Healey finished 13th in the 3A girls 1600-meter run.

The girls 4x400 team of Brooke Brewis, Ashley Chew, Erin Hulbert and Leo finished 13th. John Yayi-Bondje finished 12th in the 3A boys 800 meter run.

Carlie Wilkins and Madeleine Gray also qualified for states in pole vault.
