As Anne Arundel County Fair President John Kozenski Jr. likes to say, “The fair is not just a ride in the carnival, a meal from a food truck, or a ride on a pony. The fair allows you the chance to participate by entering your child’s first Popsicle stick barn, with your family favorite jar of pickles, or calling the hogs or husband home.”
Those unique experiences return this year from September 11-15 as the fair comes to the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds at 1450 General’s Highway in Crownsville. Each day brings a different slate of entertainment, contests, shows, demonstrations, displays, foods and goods offered by fair vendors.
Horsemen will navigate arches and spear rings in a showcase of Maryland’s official state sport of jousting on September 11 at 6:30pm. Bring or bid on a cake during an auction to benefit the 4H Club on September 16. Other activities include goat-milking, tractor-pulling, and camel races.
Classic rock, country and Irish tunes are part of the music schedule, with Midnite Run (September 14 at 6:15pm), Oracle (September 14 from 7:00pm-9:30pm), Dublin 5 (September 14 at 8:00pm) and Jackson Dean (September 15 at 5:00pm) all set to perform.
Judges will crown the winner of a poultry royalty contest on September 11. The special title of fair queen, along with $500, will be awarded to one lucky contestant on the same day. The most skilled fairgoers ages 8 to 80 will convene for Arundel’s Got Talent on the upper stage on September 12 at 6:30pm.
Know of an adorable child whose cheeks grandma can’t stop pinching? Enter him or her in the cute kid contest on September 15 at 9:45am.
Admission to the fair is $10 for ages 10 and over but does not include carnival rides or games. Kids 9 and under can gain free admission if attending the fair with a paying adult. On Children’s Day, September 14, kids ages 9 and older gain entry for $5. For more information about this year’s festivities, call 410-923-3400 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
