Family Day At Downs Park Is A Fun Community Event

The Friends of Downs Park are busy preparing for their biggest event of the year, the annual Family Day at Downs Park in Pasadena on Saturday, June 1. As in years past, Family Day will feature many local businesses and organizations, as well as the Anne Arundel County fire and police departments. There will be something for everyone to enjoy, with activities for children and vendors for adults. Some activities are free, while others have a nominal fee.

Children will have many activities to choose from, including entertainment from magician Willy Woo Woo at 1:00pm and 3:00pm, pony rides provided by Dun-Pikin Farm, sitting inside fire trucks, and face painting. At least 25 vendors and businesses from the Pasadena area will attend, including LuLaRoe, Paparazzi, Master Gardeners, beekeepers, the Marine Corps League and many others. PopPop & HoneyGram's Workshop and other crafters will showcase their creations. Area food trucks will also be in attendance.

Stephanie McGregor of the Friends of Downs Park said there are two exciting additions to this year's event. One new activity is an obstacle course set up by the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. The obstacle course is similar to what firefighters encounter when battling house fires. Children will also have the opportunity to use firefighters' spray hoses. The other new addition to this year's event is live entertainment from the band Old Sailors Collective.

Visitors can also purchase tickets for the chance to dunk Downs Park Superintendent Nolley Fisher and Friends of Downs Park President Jim Wisniewski. Proceeds from the dunk tank will benefit the Friends of Downs Park.

McGregor is excited that Family Day has become an annual and fun event for the community. “Family Day for us is a day to invite people out to not only see and enjoy the park that we love so much but also to showcase what the community has to offer,” she said.

Family Day at Downs Park will be on Saturday, June 1, from noon to 4:00pm, and will be held rain or shine. Downs Park is located at 8311 John Downs Loop in Pasadena. Gate fees are waived during the event.
