G. W. Pope Maintains Honest, Family Friendly Business Sense

Gary Pope has worked in the flooring service floors his whole life. He learned the trade from his father when he was a kid, and went on to work for flooring companies when he was grown. In 1988, he began operating his own flooring business, G. W. Pope Wood Floors, out of his home; later, in the mid ‘90s, he opened his current business location on Mountain Road.

Starting a home-based business allowed Pope to establish his business and customer base right here in his community. As such, G. W. Pope Wood Floors has maintained a neighborly sense of business and involvement with the local area.

G. W. Pope Wood Floors specifies in woods floors, rather than carpet or vinyl. While those and other alternative flooring types have become more common in the present economy, G. W. Pope has maintained business with its clientele. “We’ve been around a while,” Pope explained, “and we aim to do things right.”

As the company is family owned and operated, Pope’s adult son Jimmy is an active part of the field. Jimmy also maintains an active role in the community, volunteering time with the Green Hornets athletic organization as a youth football coach. “He’s all for the kids,” Pope said of his son. “He has his own kids who play for the Green Hornets and he likes doing it.”

Pope believes strongly in nurturing the welfare of children, saying, “They don’t affect our business, but they’re our future.” By taking part in the development of local youth, the Pope family has helped the community flourish.

Despite the effects of the recession, G. W. Pope Wood Floors has stayed around. “We can still say that we’re in business,” Pope said in acknowledgement of his blessings. Much of his business is driven by referrals from previous clients, who appreciate the business sense behind the company.

“We’re a family run business, and we’re not into high-pressure sales,” Pope explained. “We try to be honest and offer a decent price for what we do.”
