High Point Elementary Opens New Administration Wing

Posted

High Point Elementary had quite the welcome back from Spring Break: the unveiling of its new administration wing.

The wing includes the resource room, health suite, principal and assistant principal offices, conference room and more.

The biggest change, however, is that the school was "re-fronted" during the process, explained High Point principal Tim Merritt. Where the previous entrance was on Duvall Highway, the new entrance is located at 7789 Edgewood Ave.

"One of the huge improvements has been enhanced security of the main entrance," Merritt said.

Now, guests must be buzzed in three times before actually getting into the school. After getting through the front door, guests are confined to a lobby. From the lobby, they are buzzed into the main office, and then buzzed into the actual school from there, Merritt said.

"It's awesome," Merritt said. "All schools are moving that way now."

The parking lot was also expanded. It is now right in front of the main entrance, and the bus loop is off to the left, according to Merritt.

Construction is set to finish this summer, and High Point students will start September 4 -- a day later than most schools -- to accomodate the project.

The final phase includes the media center and early childhood education wing, which consists of five new classrooms.
