It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Patricia “Pat” Sohn, a remarkable woman whose life was defined by unwavering devotion to her family, her country and her community. Pat passed away peacefully, surrounded by those she loved, leaving behind a legacy of service, compassion and steadfast love.
Born and raised in Sun Valley, Pat was the only daughter of Andrew and Lucina and one of four siblings. A proud graduate of Northeast High School, she went on to serve her nation with distinction for 40 years at the National Security Agency, where she worked in manpower — what most would call human resources. Humble by nature and bound by the secrecy of her mission, Pat never spoke much about her work. Yet those who did know her role recognized the quiet respect she earned across the agency.
In 1980, Pat married her husband, Michael Sohn, and together they raised two children, Bryan and Nicole, in a household rich with love, laughter, and unwavering support. Whether it was Indian Guides, dance recitals, track meets or fire prevention events, Pat was never just present — she was fully engaged, often arriving with snacks and water for the entire team. Her dedication extended to her four grandchildren, for whom she showed up in every way possible — with hugs, holiday magic, car rides, and unconditional love.
Known to many as “MomMom,” “Other MomMom,” or “Momma Sohn,” Pat embraced her extended family with open arms. She became a second mother to countless friends and community members — always offering a ride, a meal, or simply a listening ear. That caretaking spirit was part of who she was.
Pat's name is synonymous with service in the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company, where she served faithfully for nearly four decades. A past president of the auxiliary and a regular presence at fundraisers, carnivals and community events, she was often the unsung hero behind the scenes — the one making sure the food orders were placed, the snacks were stocked, and the event ran smoothly. She also served as president of the ladies auxiliary to the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association, deepening her legacy of support across the region.
Her influence ran deep, not just through her work but in the example she set — as a mother, wife, colleague and friend. Pat believed in showing up, in making memories, and in treating everyone with kindness. She was the rock her family leaned on, and the light that helped guide many through difficult times.
Pat found joy later in life in a new family tradition: camping trips with extended family and friends, especially their annual getaway to Luray, Virginia. What began as a single Halloween trip turned into treasured summers filled with river floats, poolside laughter, group breakfasts and late-night chats. She found peace and purpose in those gatherings — never for the destination, but for the people.
Pat was also a firm believer in signs from above — especially cardinals, which she always said meant an angel was near. Her family takes comfort now in each bright red bird that crosses their path, knowing she is still with them in spirit.
She is survived by her loving husband Michael, children Bryan and Nicole, her cherished grandchildren, her brothers Andy and Milt, and a deeply grateful extended family of relatives, lifelong friends, and fire company colleagues.

Pat Sohn’s absence will be felt deeply, but her legacy — of service, kindness, and showing up — will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
