Lake Shore Girls Are Junior A County Champions

The Lake Shore TNT field hockey team captured the Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks Junior A championship with a 1-0 victory over Broadneck Area Youth Sports at Annapolis High School on October 29.

Charlotte Alexander converted the game’s winning goal, punching home a rebound of a hard shot by Lake Shore’s Becca Lawn to end the TNT’s season with a championship and an undefeated 12-0 record.

The team of Charlotte Alexander, Becca Lawn, Erin Bock, Elaina Creekmore, Kori Edmondson, Riley Evans, Natalie Forman, Peyton Guinter, Jordan Hood, Laci Hynson, Alyssa Krueger, Phoebe Lee, Addi Piechowiak, Cameron Reedy, Sydney Thatcher, Lauren Widdowson and goalkeeper Stephenie Brown was a combination of eighth-graders and seventh-graders who held varied levels of skill and experience, which they meshed in a complementary way, said head coach Teri Lawn.

“This was a team that worked hard at practice to get better and worked well together,” said Lawn, who coached the team with assistants Terry Edmondson and Jen Thatcher. “Practices this season were focused more on game awareness [and] understanding why maintaining positioning works best and how everyone has a skill that is needed for the team to be successful.”

Coach Lawn cited big in-season victories over top contenders GORC and Severna Park over a single weekend that had a galvanizing effect on the team. She also praised the group’s team-first mentality and the way they bonded and supported each other.

“During that championship game, the support from the players cheering on the sideline to the girls on the field was great. That focus on the game and the team togetherness made a big difference when we needed it, and we were able to keep the energy going when they subbed in. … Some players have been with the league since the Sticklette division and some players on the team have only been with Lake Shore one or two years, but they didn’t let that make a difference. They got along so well and were definitely the funniest group I have coached while at Lake Shore.”
