Letter To The Editor: COVID-19 Return Of The Arts

Posted

I'm a junior at Chesapeake High School. I’ve been voicing my opinions and advocating on the “Chesapeake Schools Community” Facebook page for the kids of the arts programs at CHS to get their extracurricular activities back. As many of my points stated, sports have been given the OK to go back, and as I see pictures of them indoors without masks on, it fuels my ever-growing frustration. By my side, I have many other parents, teachers and students trying to fight for the same thing I am. Being left in the dark while hundreds of other students are being led towards the light makes me feel hurt, frustrated and concerned. The arts have been not only downplayed but forgotten and left out of the conversation. I'm beyond happy and excited for my sporty peers, but it's hard to be happy for them when I'm left in an immense amount of confusion. If possible, Id like the word to be spread so we can get as many emails to the Board of Education as possible.

Thank you,

Emily Turpin
