Chesapeake Bay Middle art teacher Chris Davenport is used to making his art in the classroom, but his work will soon be traveling across the Mid-Atlantic. Davenport was recently chosen as one of 11 artists to redesign the next generation of fleet trailers for Sheetz, the family-owned convenience chain.
The project was commissioned from May 30 to August 15, and artists were selected based upon their ability to communicate the Sheetz brand in a unique, fresh and dynamic way. Davenport impressed with his “pop-op” art style composed of heavy lines and striking attitude.
“The opportunity to have my artwork reproduced to the size of a billboard and traveling from state to state is almost too surreal to believe,” said Davenport, a father of four. “It truly is a dream come true for a middle school art teacher from small-town Maryland!”
In his art design, Davenport focused on the fresh food options at Sheetz, along with the convenience. “Sheetz is a bright, clean and safe beacon of convenience on the roadside to anywhere,” he said. “No matter if I want to grab breakfast [while] dropping off the kids at school or pick up dinner for the while family, if I need it fast, Sheetz has me covered!”
Other winning artwork can be found at www.sheetzartproject.com and Sheetz swag featuring the winning designs — such as T-shirts, totes, mugs and more — can be purchased by clicking on “Sheetz Art Project” at www.sheetzshop.com. All profits will be donated to Sheetz for the Kidz, an employee-driven charity helping underprivileged children experience a holiday in a way they normally couldn't through the donation of new toys, clothes and other basic needs.
