This week, a group of kids is attending the first Wilderness Survival Camp at Lake Waterford Park. For about seven hours each day, students learn the basics of wilderness survival from camp director Jason Drevenak, who has starred on the shows "Mygrations" on National Geographic and "Darkness" on Discovery.

Over the week, students learned the basics of fire craft, how to make rope out of plastic bags, and native plants that can be used for food, medicine and tools, among other skills.

"They're learning how to interact with people," Drevenak said.  "When you start with kids, hopefully it sticks, and they learn how to interact and be kind."

There are two more sessions of the Wilderness Survival Camp this summer. For more information, visit www.activekids.com
