With many local homes on the notoriously bad local well water, installing a water-treatment system is bordering on a “must do” for home owners. In Pasadena, there’s one name that comes to mind when it’s time to start thinking about water treatment - Tapp Water.

Ken Tapp spent many years as a Culligan Man. He’s been doing water treatment all of his adult life, and in 2007, when the local Culligan franchise was sold, he saw opportunity knocking.

“The community had a need,” he explains. “And I am filling it.”

Tapp grew up on well water and knew it was an issue. “The wells in this area are difficult,” he explains. “Anne Arundel County, Pasadena in particular, is very difficult. People were asking if I could take care of their equipment personally, so I decided it was time to have my own location.”

Tapp offers something unique, his company will service and care for every type of water treatment system that exists. “We don’t just do sales and installation then forget it,” he said. “We do the maintenance on any system.”

He continues, “Anyone can sell and install, but it’s being here for the long term maintenance - the relationship with customers. We’re here to address that. We service all brands.”

For Ken Tapp, it’s a growing business. “We plan to expand our operation to other areas in the county. We want to have multiple locations, possibly in Edgewater or Crownsville,” he shares.

“The common denominator with all human beings is water,” explains Tapp. “I frequently bump into clients at the grocery store or out and about at restaurants or getting gas. I pass my customers every day. I see them at church. I’m reachable. When folks want to talk about water in the community, I’m here for them.”

Tapp believes it’s that personal approach that sets him apart, as well as his concern for the community. The company supports local schools and organizations, donating drinking water for events and certificates for silent auctions.

“It’s a pleasure to serve the community,” Tapp says. “I get hugs from customers when they’re happy. I treat the water and they tell me their kids’ clothes are coming out white again. It’s a pleasure, and I feel lucky to be participating in the community in the way we have the chance to do.”
