Gibson Island Resident Involved With Medical Center For Past Decade

University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC) has appointed Gibson Island resident R. Kent Schwab as chair of its board of directors. Schwab, who currently serves as vice chair, will take over the position from Lou Zagarino after his three-year term expires on July 1. As a longtime philanthropist in the area, he first became involved with the medical center in 2005, serving on the institution’s Foundation board of directors.

“I am delighted to further my involvement with the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center and am excited to help further grow the medical center and the services it offers to our community,” said Schwab, a Pennsylvania native who moved to Anne Arundel County in 1970. “Through our physicians and staff, we are able to offer world-class care in a community setting, and that is a win-win for everyone who utilizes our organization.”

Schwab has served on many community and civic chamber of commerce boards, including Club 100 of Anne Arundel County and Gibson Island Country School, and he was co-chair of the “Delivering the Future” capital campaign. He began his career with Allstate Insurance Company in 1977, and in 1995, he founded the Kent Schwab Agency, which is an affiliate of Allstate. In 2012, he founded “Full Sail Benefits,” which is an independent agency representing Allstate’s benefits workplace division. Schwab is a graduate of Washington & Jefferson College with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He and his wife, Nicki, have one son, Alexander.
