Park Lacrosse Teams Open Season With Wins

The defending state champion Severna Park lacrosse teams got their 2024 seasons off to a winning start last Friday.

The Falcons hosted Arundel for both girls and boys lacrosse contests. Both teams won comfortably, though their big wins required different paths to get there.

The girls were locked in a tight tussle until a three-goal burst in 75 seconds near the end of the first half propelled them to a 13-2 victory. Navy signee Alyssa Gore-Chung scored four goals and had three assists in the win.

“We’ve been grinding nonstop and working hard to get ready for the season,” Gore-Chung said. “Severna Park is lacrosse, and lacrosse is Severna Park.”

The boys scored 31 seconds into the game and never looked back, rolling to a 17-1 win. John Burkhardt had three goals, while UMBC commit Jack Fish added a pair to help the Falcons win their first game under new coach Bob Zichelli.

The beat goes on for the Severna Park boys, who are embarking on a quest for an eighth straight state championship.

“We’ve got a standard, and we have coaches who went to Severna Park as well, so they help us keep that,” Fish said.

Added Burkhardt, “We always want to win — focused on winning, and nothing else.”

Spring sports for Severna Park and Broadneck both began competitive games last week, with the first competition date being March 21.
