Students Shine At Variety Show

Posted

Severna Park Elementary School (SPES) held its annual variety show last Friday at Severna Park High School.

Thirty-eight student acts comprising more than 100 participants sang, danced, played instruments, told jokes and performed magic tricks for a packed house.

The variety show was the brainchild of former SPES parent Loretta Wilson, who envisioned an event that offered students a “shining star moment.” She, along with two other moms from the school, Jennifer MacFarland and Jennifer Sovern, passed away from breast cancer within a few years of each other.

Funds earned at the event are donated to the Luminis Health Fortney Breast Center in their honor. This year’s grand total was $4,622.65.

Jennifer McFarland was our daughter. She was a wonderful Mother and an outstanding teacher who was taken from us much too early. I love that this event continues to honor both of their legacies/memories. Her children are now at Severna Park High School and doing well.
